Evening all.

Looking at our first yacht, dozens of questions to follow, but firstly can you please recommend insurance companies who would insure a 1978 26’ Yacht being kept on a swing mooring please.

Thanks in advance.
Alistairr.

Pantaenius and Y Yachting have good reputations, albeit I've never claimed from either. I was with Pants for a while but now with YY. I believe Pants have a lower limit on insured value but not sure about YY.

Most insurance companies seem unwilling to insure a boat on a mooring over the winter.

GJW Direct have served me well. Very prompt response to a couple of small claims and they take a pragmatic approach to rigging renewal intervals. The premiums are competitive too. No connection etc, etc.

I have been insured with the East Coast Mutual Yacht Insurance Association for more than 12 years. The premiums have changed little over that time and they don't require you to have a survey or mind you sailing single-handed.

Humm re Boat insurance; been with Navigators & General for many years now, always found that their premiums to be quite acceptable, also their requirements re Valuations or Inspections most acceptable; had to make a claim last year, due to vandalism /theft they settled quite fairly I thought, some financial loss, but overall the agreed total sum saw me able to put right and replace taken items without to much grief to self.
So would recommend based upon personal experiences of Insuring through them.

So 5 stars for N&G from me {:-)#

I am with Y Yacht. Last Boxing Day at 0130 (Marina CCTV!!!) the cover blew off my dinghy on the foredeck during a bit of a blow. I contacted them a day later.
They referred it to the Underwriters, who requested a photo of the 'off'. Sent the photo and got back the go ahead to get the cover replaced. As there wasn't anybody local who could do it, they authorised two nights in a nearby Marina to get the job measured up and the cover sent on to me (all to my satisfaction).
The resulting invoice was sent directly to Y Yacht and settled without any loss to me. The only inconvenience to me was a nice couple of days sailing in my timescales.
I have subsequently renewed with them (in a different sailing area abroad) at the best price I got quoted. I would say that I am happy with Y Yacht.
My Dad owns the firm - NOT really, just a happy customer etc etc...

Another vote for Navigators. Always found them good to deal with and ok singled handed sailing. Had a small claim after I was broken into last yaer. They settled very quickly and recogniosed my efforts to keepm cost down by doing some repair work myself.

+1 except I've had two quite large claims sorted by them, one from before they took over my insurance and the second last year. They were excellent. I was hit a couple of years ago, which they settled on a "no fault" basis, and before that they were insurers of both parties when there was a yard incident, also settled fuss free with no loss of NCB.

+1 Again a substantial claim settled by GJW with no hassle at all, they had a surveyor down next day and no NCB impact, which surprised me, and excellent customer service.

It seems as though there are quite a few good marine insurance companies out there which is encouraging.

I have a 26ft yacht on a swinging mooring and am insured with GJW. I had to make a claim for virtually the full value of the boat a few years ago and they were excellent. They didn't quibble anything.

I have one policy with Pantaenius, mostly because of the lack of restrictions on solo sailing and racing, the other boat is with Y Yachting, both companies have been good to deal with so far.

Previously had a claim with Haven Knox Johnson who were ok but had to push a bit to get the repair done as I wanted and with who I wanted but all ended up ok in the end.

Never had to claim but GJW were very competitive for my 30 footer, good service and no premium increase for single handed sailing (although the modest excess doubles for single handed night hours).

That’s for all the replies, I’ve spoken to some of those companies mentioned and quotes are coming in quite favourably.

Thanks,
Alistairr.

Do let us know how you get on and which one comes us best. It's good to get feedback on our feedback :D
