I am having to find new yacht insurance company as Yachtmaster are demanding a full survey I have been with them five years and did not plan on coming out this spring .Have found Craftinsure will insure without survey and GJW will insure from prepurchase survey (6 years ago) can members give past experience with these two companies and what service was like in the event of a claim

I have used Trafford's on and off for many years, but never fortunately have had to process a claim. This year I returned to them as they were just over 1/3 the price being charged by Nav & Gen, (£240 v £610 for 40' Mobo >17 knots) and not too fussed about the survey either, although mine is from 2011.

GJW charge more but seem to take the view if it floats they will insure it, that's what you are paying extra for. I would gone with GJW, but they were still £130 above Traffords.

I had a claim when with GJW and it was settled very easily (damaged P-bracket due to rope around prop). Left them at the 20year old point because they required survey. St. Margarets (now HAVEN) did not; similar cover and premium; no claims so cannot comment further.

they should give you 12 months notice.of a survey

I used Trafford's a few years ago; they were cheap and I found out why they were cheaper than other insurances when I had to make a claim!!!!!!
