My insurance is due for renewal shortly so have received a quote assuming that
there is going to be a normal season.

My view is that the sailing season will probably not happen until July, if at all this
year.

I have replied suggesting a quote for the boat remaining in storage with the option
of increasing the premium in the event of being able to use the boat this year.

I await their reply with interest.

I keep my boat in the Netherlands and have spoken with them today to check that
they are OK both healthwise and financially. Everyone is OK and apparently they take
most of their income from winter storage charges and the summer is normally financially quiet.

During the conversation I asked for an invoice to cover storage to the end of June
to be told that they haven't yet decided whether or not to charge anyone for summer
storage forced by coronavirus restrictions!

Can't see that happening in the UK!

The yard where I used to keep my boat, McKellar's Slipway in Kilcreggan, charged exactly the same to launch and recover as they did for summer storage, so the annual bill was always the same whether you launched or not. Neat, eh?

I imagine most yards haven't got round to deciding on charges etc.. My yard had already sent out a notice stating that, because winter has been too wet and miserable to carry out much maintenance, they were extending all March contracts to the end of April.
If any yard uses this hiatus in activity to fleece their customers I hope they are named and shamed here. Similarly, those that show an understanding approach should be praised.

Well, so far the replies and the Sutton Harbour post would seem to indicate that
some parts of our leisure boating industry do have a good side! I hope they are
repaid by customer loyalty.

Have had a reply from the insurers offering nearly £100 reduction now, and to
contact them if I can use the boat for a premium adjustment. Not quite as much
as I had hoped because, in storage, most of the risk would be covered by the
boatyard insurance, but better than nothing.

Unfortunately just received the invoice for 2020 mooring fees from our local council, despite the fact that we might not be able to launch for some time,b******s have upped fees by 8% despite the fact they provide virtually no services, water and electric supplied by club, harbour dangerous in North Westerlies and two years ago in storm callum we lost 9 boats in one day.
