My ST50 instruments packed up - well depth and wind broke, the log is still working OK. A Raymarine dealer/service I spoke to told me Raymarine no longer support ST50's or do spare parts, and that with 8 years use I've done well out of them /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
So being a mug, I've just coughed up £900 for a completely new set of ST60 instruments - log, depth and wind. Now one of you will tell me there's an ST50 service centre - please don't!!!
Being a stingy sod I can't see what the benefit of this 'upgrade' is. All I want is to know the depth and speed (as far as wind is concerned, I look at the sails so the Wind instrument just fills a hole on the instrument board). Why can't instrument manufacturers continue to support old models for repair/spare parts at least a few years after they go off the production line?
Now I'm off to buy a replacement Raymarine Autohelm ST2000 because that has also expired (and I got so fed up with repairing it I binned it). And feeling an even bigger mug than ever!
End of mini-rant. Sympathy gratefully received. Advice telling me I shouldn't have bought the ST60 not gratefully received.
