Hi,
As part of a general refit, I am replacing some old (and pretty tired) instruments with a new multi function display and a Raymarine i70. This will leave me with two empty spaces on my navpod. Is there any neat solution to cover the empty holes? I could leave the old instruments in there, but would prefer not to, I could also DIY something, but neatness is not my strong point.

Ideally someone makes a nice standard sized instrument blanking plate, but I cannot find anything at the usual places.

Cheers,
Edward

Coloured perspex to match(or contrast? down to your preference) the pod, it cuts easily with hand tools and you can bevel the edge with ordinary wood router bits; there are companies who will do this for you, but it's not cheap once you get beyond a plain rectangle without bevels.

Would it be practicable to make an entire new panel? If so, a sheet of a suitable plastic or GRP - wood if you like varnishing - would probably look better than patches. Whatever you do, I'd be inclined to contrast it with the pod finish, because you probably won't be able to match it perfectly, and poorly hidden repairs always look worse than "features"

It sounds like a DIY solution is the way forward then. I will take a look at plastic options, get it cut to size online and then finish it myself.

Cheers everyone

The panel round the plotter is 3mm white acrylic (perspex) - easy enough to cut and smooth and round edges with a saw and wet and dry paper- originally the four instrunents were in a line across the top. This week's job is to sort out the nearly 100 degree discrepancy between magnetic and fluxgate compass - it's an intermittent fault.

Once upon a time I only had a compass and leadline - never had this sort of problem when there were no electrics on board.
