Installing radar on the mast

I'm thinking of installing a radar, but have one query. Should the cable to the radome (on the mast) run upsome sort of fixed trunking inside the mast? I don't like the idea of it hanging loosely in there rattling around with halyards and so on. If it does need trunking, how do you attach it to the inside of the mast - can this be done with the mast stepped?

Quite often, and on a colleagues boat, the cable is in trunking fixed to the outside of the mast. The profile is a flat back/base and a half oval front section.

The rear section is either screwed or riveted to the mast, and the front section clips over - with the cable within.

Anyway, that's how I have seen it on a few boats. Hope it helps you to work out which way you want to install the cable.

regards,
Philip
