Soon I will be on the boat and cannot ask so many questions..... But I am trying to install C-Map PC planner on an old laptop, dell latitude with win XP, I did have it working previously but after changing HD (migrating it) and RAM and having a new card reader from Jeppesen club thought I would install that, particularly as the code on the bottom of the card read (old one) is no longer legible.

So the software installs ok but will only come up in demomode, no opportunity to enter codes etc. I did plug the card reader in too soon but have deleted the previous installation and drivers and checked I am using the correct driver and believe I am. Would there be some buried place where driver info is hiding? Can anyone help with advice on where to go now. I have contacted Jeppesen who sent an email explaining driver issues but this has not helped. Really stuck.

Anyone?

Had hoped this would be the ultimate solution laptop for planning and CP180 at the helm, but so far not looking good....

Thanks

I am replying as noone else has.

My memory is rubbish, but I do remember the exact same thing happening to me. The problem is I cannot remember the solution.

I do know it was not a driver issue. I vaguely recall there is another way of forcing it to ask for a serial number. It might have been somewhere in one of the menu options or perhpas from the help or about screen.

Thanks solentboy, that gave me the encouragement to carry on and it is now working but very slowly but could be the very old laptop.

So I noticed on the pcplanner web site that if an upgrade was performed the registration codes might be needed. I removed all I could see of drivers and software. I then reinstalled an older version of pc-planner, rebooted computer, installed the drivers and rebooted, plugged in the card reader and it installed the drivers, I then opened PC planner and it asked for the codes which I eventually got from the pc planner web site.

Looking forward to using it and hope that helps someone else!

You may want to look into the software package called SoftwareOnBoard (http://www.digiboat.com/). It is an alternative to the PC-planner software that I find horrible to use, even for the very limited feature-set it carries.
SoftwareOnBoard uses the same cardreader and drivers that are required for PC planner, but at least works as a fully featured Chartplotter. It's also a bit 'funny' in the way it works, but miles ahead of PC planner. I did notice that he price has gone up a bit since I bought it :-(
