to get access to you picture, do you need to log on to that site?
is the picture too large
best way is to go to the picture, right click, select properties, and select path and copy it, then paste into the appropriate place on your user profile.

to check the validity of your path, type it into the URL line of your browser, cligk Go or press enter and you should see the picture. then cut-and-paste the URL from the browser into your YBW setup page (it will include the 'http//:' even if you didn't type it in the first place).

if it still doesn't work it'll be down to the host site needing a logon or the picture not being 65x75 pixels.

Why's mine such poor quality though?

It looks that way cos it's pixellated. You've probably compressed it very aggressively. Do you have the original larger picture?

Yes, but I've just downloaded Easythumb, but it's still poor quality, despite the original pic being pretty high res. Any hints?

That's better anyway. Probably about as good as your going to get. 65x75 pixels is very very small, and there is no way at that size you can maintain any detail

You could try reducing to a bigger picture say 130 x150 pixels, and use that as the source for your icon - it might not compress quite so much when it's displayed. Experiment a bit and see what happens now that you have EasyThumb

Thumbnails

I had a mess about trying to find a prog. that will produce thumbnails. The only one I could find on my PC was Microsoft Frontpage.
For those that have got this, here's my method - possibly not the best but I never read instructions and just muddle through unless I get real stuck.

Open new page.
From insert menu find and select original picture.
Left click on picture to open toolbar at bottom of screen.
3rd button from left should be Auto Thumbnail - hover cursor over it and it's function will appear - click on this.
Here's where someone may be able to offer quicker route as I couldn't find a way to save the pic as a JPEG file in Frontpage........
Right click on new thumbnail and select copy.
Open MS Paint and paste pic.
Save as JPEG image.

Job done and good quality thumbnail should be produced.

Re: Thumbnails

Most online photo galleries will produce a thumnail automatically, as will on pc photo albums, when you load original

Problem is you have no control over the size produced. Pics here should be 65 x 75 pixels max

Re: Thumbnails

I found a pic and went through my complicated procedure and you are correct about the size issue. Mine came out at 100 x 76 but it seems to get adjusted by the forum to the correct size.

This is the original thumbnail. Looks like it got squeezed widthways.

Re: Thumbnails

That's why it's better to do it manually.

The forum will always force it to 75x65. So say in an extreme case, the original was 3 times wider than it is tall, it wil be compressed in until it is nearly 1:1, so it wil look pretty weird.

You need to crop any pictures so they maintain the correct ratio
