We have exactly this set up on our boat. I never partly furl the genoa which means it has perfect shape and will last longer. We have a hank on tri-radial No3 and then a heavy wind options too. You do see a very small amount of turbulence around the luff but, in all honesty, it does not appear to make a jot of difference to performance - in the Round The Island Race 2 years ago we were very fast to windward set up like this compared to boats with full race spec sails. I think this set up gives an ideal compromise between having hank on sails for good shape / right sail for conditions and not having to handle a massive genoa. Im told by my sail maker that quite a few boats around the 40ft size are adopting this set-up.

about inner detachable fore stays.
they just had a boat in with a removable stay that was parked against the mast. they found that the stay had moved about athwart ships & had worn completely through the leading edge of the spreader.

Personally, I would be very reluctant to fit an inner forestay to a boat not factory rigged for this combination. The main reasons being foredeck strenthening, apart from mast and rigging considerations.
Having said that, with a roller genoa there is a solution for heavy weather.
Its called a Gale Sail. You roll up the Genny really tight and then this Gale Sail is fitted with a sleeve fitted with clips that fits round the rolled sail . It is very easy to hoist and take down.
I think it is a far better solution.

And is it easy to fit around the genoa in bad conditions?I'm sorry but I have my doubts.
I fitted a removable forestay to my Fulmar and use it all the time.Providing it is done with due consideration to the forces involved just about any boat can be converted.

The extra stay vs. gale sail discussion has been done before. It was not the OP's question.
A gale sail will give the same problem with turbulence when put over the furled genoa as a furled genoa will give to a storm sail on an extra stay.
But to elaborate, the advantage of the extra stay and hanked on storm sail is, you can put on the storm sail before the storm actually happens and keep it lashed on deck. When need arises, you take off the lashing and raise the sail. With an adverse forecast, this gives much better control as to when the storm sail is put up. Also, the stay is slightly aft of the bow which gives better balance. And the sheets can already be prepared beforehand.
With the gale sail or similar, you only put it up when it's needed - usually a bit too late when conditions on deck are already quite wild, and then you still have to rig the sheets.
