about inner detachable fore stays.
they just had a boat in with a removable stay that was parked against the mast. they found that the stay had moved about athwart ships & had worn completely through the leading edge of the spreader..
so much for an added stay for Safety

Personally, I would be very reluctant to fit an inner forestay to a boat not factory rigged for this combination. The main reasons being foredeck strenthening, apart from mast and rigging considerations.
Having said that, with a roller genoa there is a solution for heavy weather.
Its called a Gale Sail. You roll up the Genny really tight and then this Gale Sail is fitted with a sleeve fitted with clips that fits round the rolled sail . It is very easy to hoist and take down.
I think it is a far better solution.
