The team's opinion on whether adding injector cleaner to the diesel is a half decent idea on a mature engine?

Also any recommendations for best brand?

Fuel additives that help as preventative against diesel bug but also clean the fuel system are available.

I use an additive . The absence of any issues doesn't prove the additive does any good , especially when no fault has been identified,

It may be safe to say it won't do any harm. But it is important to know how it works. These chemicals are not cleaning the insides of the injectors of the individual nozzles. If they are blocked, they are blocked. The injector cleaners are catalysts causing carbon deposits burn at lower temperature than normal. By doing this, they HOPEFULLY clean the tips of the injectors of carbon that is disrupting the spray pattern. I personally believe it is more prudent to take the injectors out, clean them manually and at the same time check for blocked nozzles. Depending on the access to your engine, this may be an easy, one hour or so operation.

Diesel Power ECOMAX - Millers Oils

I believe this has a beneficial effect ot varying degrees.
It contains, among other things, a detergent which helps keep the insides of the injectors clean.
Some people say a few hundred miles of driving with this stuff will make the difference on some cars passing the MOT.
Many people claim improved MPG, but I can't vouch for that as my driving routes vary too much.

Could be worth a try if the engine has been idle for a while.
