Hi!

A friend of a friend has given my children a Minim sailing dinghy to play around on. Now it needs varnish stripping and re-applying, some repairs to the transome but the worst part is it has no mast, boom, sail, dagger board or rudder. From what I can find out they came as a kit build or plans but I can't find any dimensions, plans or more information about them on the net.
So, do you have or have you had one, built one or know of any web sites that would have the dimensions of the parts I need?

Thanks in advance

There is one for sale here which at least shows you what the sailplan/rudder/daggerboard look like: http://www.gumtree.com/p/boats-kaya...w-it-sail-it-motor-it-or-scull-it./1120583240

I have an original sales brochure for a Minim dinghy, which I picked up at an Earl's Court Boat Show in, at a guess, about 1990. That one was GRP, though, so although it's the same sail insignia as the plywood one I don't know if or how they are related. If a scan of the brochure would help, PM me your email address and I'll try to find it.

To be honest unless you can pick them up on the cheap or make them yourself it cou;d end up costing more than it is worth

From the pictures it looks similar to an Optimist so perhaps you could source the rig from there and adapt

I'm thinking of using a topper mast (or a windsurfer mast) and modifying a Mermaid sailing dinghy main sail that I have kicking about just to keep the rig simple. I contacted the chap with the one for sale - what a star he is! he gave me the following info - The Minim was designed by David Mason who lived in Fowey and traded from Minim Marine, 46 Vicarage Road, Fowey.

Well, what a shock! I live no more than 5 miles from his address and his wife used to be my Maths teacher! Unfortunately however they no longer live there.

As for the fiberglass ones, I was told by the owner of mine that the hull had been used as the plug that the moulds were taken from. Given how much resin has been poured over the hull and how all the corners have been radiused I have no reason to doubt it.

Just gotta find a suitable mast and rudder ;-)

Wish I’d seen this post in 2015!
if you’re still looking for info, on the minim, I have some. I’d love to see a copy of that brochure if you still have it?
