Can anyone give me an idea of how busy Hardway slip is likely to get over the easter weekend.

Also what it parking like for car and trailer for several hours after launching.

Thanks

If you are serious about using the slip then it is worth contacting Gosport Borough Council to check the arrangements (they have a good website). That will also give the locations of their other slips - one of which may be more appropriate for you.

I've never used it myself, but I pass it going to and from my boat and it does not seem to be particularly busy at any time. There is a large public car park a couple of hundred yards up the road which is free and has not limit on the time you can stay. This is where we park whenever we are on Bedouin.

Thanks for that,

Sorry if i am taking you the wrong way but do you feel that Hardway might be unsuitable.

I have a leisure 17 to launch and liked the look of Hardway as it also has a public pontoon

Trouble is I don't know if Hardway is suitable or not - it might depend on how much depth you need to launch your boat from it's trailer. It would be a shame to turn up just to discover it wasn't suitable for you.

Not much info on the council web site so I'll give them a call.

Boat draft is around 2.5 foot plus the height of the trailer so 4 or 5 foot of water.

I was actually going to pop down there prior to the big day, to take a look.

Hi Jim,

I know it well, my boat is currently moored a couple of hundred metres from there. Parking around there will be OK, if not in the car park previously mentioned then there is on street parking about 5 minutes away where there is enough room for a trailer & car.

About the suitability I don't know if its deep enough or not. Normally I only see small motorboats going in there but I believe it might be OK for you to launch at high tide. Easter is closer to Springs than Neaps which will help. At least I have had my boat alongside the seaward end of the pontoon at high water and there was 2m+ however I don't remember whether the end of the slip goes as far out as the end of the pontoon. Anyway if you go and have a look at it when the tide is out you'll get a pretty decent idea of how far the ramp extends.

How busy it is depends a lot on the weather on the day, I've seen it busy enough on nice days in summer but usually at this time of year not too many around.

See the BoatLaunch web site. It has lots of details on Hardway (including a photograph) and details of several other slipways in Portsmouth Harbour.

Ed
