I've noticed several times while out in the Solent, the practice of MObo's dragging their inflatable tenders behind there craft.

I feel like this is a bad idea, however I wanted to ask if in fact this is safe, as recovering our tender after its use is a nightmare in some conditions.

Thanks for your replies!!

With a small inflatable you are going to have problem towing at anything over 5 or 6 knots. They get very lively? A rigid tender might be ok at a little higher speed. Why tow?

Don't think I've ever seen a mobo towing its tender in the time I've been around the Solent and it's definitely not something I'd do personally.

:)

I can't imagine what would happen to my little tender if I tried towing it at 22kts, and I don't want to find out, either

I'm a Raggy and I wouldn't tow mine as a matter of course and I'm very pleased when I hit 6 knots. Towing at much over that would be risky. I would think my dink would fall apart at 20!

How fast were these mobos going?

It's fairly normal in calm water for us sailing boat folk at 5 or 6 knots, so should be fine behind a displacement mobo at similar speeds. But planing speed? Definitely dodgy!

Well to be fair these Mobos were around 6 knots, apart from one I remember at 11knots which is what prompted my question.

I should have filmed it!
