Considering purchasing of an inflatable Kayak. Nothing serious, just for poodling around the anchorage.
Top of my list is the Intex Excursion K2 - From what I read it's better to stay away from the mid range types that have a material covering, as they take forever to dry.

Anyway, does anyone have experience of using similar Kayak's from their swim platform, and if so, how do you get onboard and disembark without falling in and looking a right ****
I don't mind getting wet if the weather becomes like it did last summer, but not at this time of year.

I used to have a hard sit on type Kayak, and use this with my previous 20ft bowrider in Spain. We were forever falling in when trying to get in and out.

On a secondary note, any recommendations for inflatable Kayak's would be gratefully received.

We have had a Stearns 'Backcountry' fot seven or eight years. It has the outer canvas covering, never had a problem with getting it dry unless it was raining.

Very stable, if the tide is used to advantage quite long trips can be made.

We have kayaked from the Yealm Pontoons on the last of the flood to all of the pubs, returning on the ebb.

Time for a nice lunch and it is very easy to put in the car park ?

Interesting, so you don't need to wait for it to dry out between the material and he vinyl. A lot of reviews imply it takes ages, and can get mouldy if not dried properly. How do you find boarding/ debarking from pontoons

We dont use it for just a day, it can be inflated for up to two weeks at a time. We have always had time to for it to dry before it gets put back in its bag. When inflated it can be carried on our side deck without being too much in the way.

It is really stable, far more so than a sit on hard kayak.

I do the paddling, First Mate sits behind me,holding a glass of chilled white wine and issuing further instruction............................................

Our 12 metre Motor Sailer has a large rear swim platform. We in/out from there when on the hook or on a mooring, use the pontoon if alongside.

How do you find the drying. And getting on and off from your boat ?

Drying is no real issue and we have had to put it away wet several times and in these instances we just leave out in the sun later or when we get home.

The kayac is very wide and the side air chambers make it very stable and quit easy to get in and out. I honestly feel these are amongst the best money can buy. Loads of videos on You tube you can look at

We carry a two person inflatable Sevylor canoe on a 27’ yacht. It is made of stiff pvc and has no liner. We get into the canoe by climbing down the folding ladder on the transom. Even a big old lump, like me, has no difficulty getting in and out. You should be fine.

Is this the sort of thing, or is this too cheap skate, for very occasional use in good conditions Sevylor Tahaa Kayak, Inflatable Canoe for 2 Persons, Inflatable Boat, Paddle Boat with Robust PVC Outer Shell, Straps for Fastening Luggage, Bar Construction for High Stability on the Water: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

Thanks. I need to check reviews. As others have said need have a skeg and track well. I've had low end one some years back for the kids on holiday. They can be quite limiting, and I am not light weight . :-)

For one person you need the 2 man and for a 2 person you need the 3 person

Here is our 3 man on the Hamble Two people and the small dog onboard
