Inflatable dinghy’s inflation , valves

Hi I wonder can anyone please tell me what the little cross bar is inside the inflator adapter, is it to hold the valve open while you hold it know the valve to inflate the dinghy, if not then what for ( some of the inflator adapters have the bar at the end and some have it a shot way up the adaptor . Any ideas truly appreciated, thanks . Kieron

I bought some adaptors to fit my dinghy, the cross seemed to be there to open the valve.
I chopped the cross bars out, so the valves work as one-way.

If you're using a limp electric pump, having the valves open with no pressure to open the valve might help?
Or, if you want to pump the dinghy flat for storage, but the valves on mine can be locked open for that.
