My friend was moored on the floating pontoon on the R.Trent at Gainsboro when a large Sealine came past at about 25kts.It tore out his stern cleat and threw his stern onto the pontoon! This was on a Broom 30, not a 15 ft day boat, I understand ABP, who are responsible for this section of the river, have got it in hand, lets hope the individual gets fined a worthy sum.

That's why Raggies get annoyed. BTW, it may help to use springs rather than warps to keep her close(ish) to the pontoon. There isn't enough slack in warps to allow for any movement - hence the damage is aggravated.

No speed limit there so abp wont be interested though to be fair boaters should slow down when they see any boat moored up.

What sealine model was it, bet I know who it was.

Can I just say the boat name starts with an "S" and ends in a "Y".

"Sod You" ;) fairly appropriate.

Your friend was unlucky but 'Searush' is dead right about the springs, short breast ropes will snatch and do major damage to cleats and / or their mountings.

I have a feeling that nothing will be done if there is no speed limit or wash warnings though. :(

I knew I had that shot gun full of buck shot on board for some reason, you should see what the spread looks like in gel cat at 50 metres.

.

Its out of order

If some one did the same to him bet he'd create merry hell.

I had a 40ft narrow boat which had a chine, I was working on the hull between tides by the slip (at Londoners apprentice) as I was just waiting for the last 2ft of tide to go and about to start grinding ready for welding a police boat which had slowing cruised by going up stream taking a good look at me came back down and opened it up just as they were coming to pass !! for no reason that I could see. The hull was pounding hard !! even with me roaring BLEEP BEEP BLURP and finger gestures which they ignored it caused 2" channeling to crush where it hit the hard bottom they then eased off about 500yds down.
YOU JUST CANT WIN CAN YOU

Isn't there some thing in collision regs or perhaps endangering with out due care, imagine if your family were hurt because of total disregard and arrogance/ignorance !
Maybe you should contact the coastguard

cheers
Mick

What you have forgotten to mention though is that this was the day of the Marnham bridge to bridge power boat racing and the chap in question was one of the safety boats for the event.

Did your friend no notice the power boats travelling down the Trent at well over 60 knots with skiers in tow?

As it happens ABP are taking it quite seriously and are looking to take him to court. He doesnt seem overly worried though.

Yes it was the day of the power boat race and about 15 power boats went passed on the plane with virtually any wash at all.My friend, who sustained damage, was the safety boat at Gainboro,so he new what was happening. The 40 odd foot Sealine also nearly washed the Nottingham Police Rib onto the bank. The Sealine was supposed to be the safety boat at Torksey about 10 miles from Gainsboro. He was told to obey the speed limits unless there was an emergency and there wasnt.I understand he has apologised but I also understand its not the first time he has caused problems.,Even today a Birchwood passed West Stockwith lock at speed and crashed a cruiser ,waiting to go into the lock, into the wall. There is a 5kts speed limit at this point!

No wash at all. Thats not what my photos show from the race boats.

The safety boat at Torksey was the police rib, we were sat chatting to them in the lock cut from where these photos below:

were taken.

I dont know where you get your information from about him causing problems in the past, the boat rarely leaves its home berth.
