I am on the lookout for a 8-10HP petrol engine for my boat restoration, has to be petrol as I cannot stand the smell of diesel. Any one know of anything suitable? It dosen't have to be running but I quite fancy a Stuart Turner/ Brit marine/ Enfield etc.
Just as an afterthought has anyone tried a LPG conversion on a small marine engine, my BMW car has one and with Autogas at only 41p a litre its very cheap to run.

I've a Stuart Turner P66 10 HP you can have for next to nothing. I live in west Wales - come and take it away.
I had been going to install it in my boat, but found there was something wrong with it. It will only run flat out, makes a loud rumbling noise, backfires periodically through the carburettor, and leaks petrol. I gave up and fitted a Yanmar diesel.

That makes made me chuckle so much someone wandered into my office to find out what was goning on.

You only missed 'but apart form thats its running fine'

Sounds like one of the better Stuart Turners!

I've got a direct drive Dolphin 12 hp in my shed. Spent far far too much money having it done up then never fitted it. Sold the boat and bought one with a very nice Beta 10 diesel. However you have got to be looking for the excitement that comes from stopping the engine and then starting again in reverse when you want to go the other way or slow down!

Thanks for the offers, Clifford I have sent you a private message. The thought of the direct drive Dolphin scares me and the logistics of retrieving an engine from the IOW is just too big, thank you all again.

Your description of a Stuart sounds like normal running.
"there's something wrong with it". Yes, it's a Stuart Turner.
"only runs flat out". But it runs, that's a bonus!
Flat out? not a phrase you often associate with these beasts. My P5 ticked over at 1100rpm, full boost at 1500rpm.
BTW
If anyone wants parts, I have most bits from 2 P5s which I canabalised to keep one going. One from 1937, one from 1960 ish.

hi clifford
i have a p66 in my boat( a double ender clinker) unfortunately i left it over winter without draining the water out of it it froze and craked the block. is the engine you spoke of still available if it is i would be more than happy to give you a fair price for it
regards les heames

I'd offered it to Wendle who said he would phone to arrange a time to pick it up, but I haven't heard yet. Send me a pm and you can be next in the queue - I'll give hime a few days yet.
