In the Golden Globe race there there is one boat that has the most in it...

On the contrary, he's totally wrong - there were 6 Rustlers in the Golden Globe.

Quite so:
6 Entrants and 2 have subsequently retired.

Ertan Beskardes (UK): Rustler 36. Quit
Jean-Luc van den Heede (France): Rustler 36.
Mark Slats (Netherlands): Rustler 36.
Philippe Péché (France): Rustler 36. Quit
Susie Goodall (UK): Rustler 36.
Uku Randmaa (Estonia): Rustler 36

Regardless or 5 or 6 and/or KellysEye's form for sometimes providing somewhat reductive responses to non-trivial discussions...it's a good question and I can't be the only other person who wondered the same thing.

Why so many rustler 36s? Maybe it's the most appropriate modern british production boat but it's not just brits sailing them.

The rules for entry are quite specific: "Competitors must sail in production boats between 32ft and 36ft overall (9.75 – 10.97m) designed prior to 1988 that have a full-length keel with rudder attached to their trailing edge." That limits the choice quite a bit.

Well they are having a rough time down there in the Southern Ocean just now.

Abhilash Tomy and Gregor McGuckin rolled and dismasted Tomy is injured.

Mark Slats experiences two major knock-downs.

It did seem a bit curious that 18 strongly built boats with experienced skippers set off, and less than half way round, nearly half the entrants have retired. Would probably make an interesting article to describe why the various skippers had to quit and what could have been done to prevent this.

Well it is obvious really !!.... Should have been allowed to go in some proper fat arsed AWB's with bolted on fin keels, spade rudders & open transoms. Not to forget fractional rigs. Would have all been round & home by now.-- Well home at least !!!
