Last Friday we decided to attempt a passage through the SW Sunk swatchway identified by Tillergirl, enroute Ramsgate to Fambridge.
Conditions ; wind F2 or less, sea v.slight, visability very poor 0.25nm or less. Entered the waypoints in chartplotter, (and doubled up on iPad). Three Farthings official draft 1.65m, with virtually empty water tank, & low fuel levels was probably spot on that.
Arrived at WPt2 at 11:46 with strong cross tide in the Black Deep of 1.6+ knots, depth 5.7/5.6m under the keel. this was the shallowest recorded. Motored as close to 281deg as possible at approx 3 knots, max depth recorded 8.1m at 12.:03.
I have to confess to straying north of the line near the western end as we were distracted by the antics of a stowaway tiny bird, about the size of a bluetit. It stayed for nearly an hour constantly flying off and then returning to hop around the deck and us. It only left when a flock of mates flew by. We had another slightly larger bird aboard for ages, from 5 miles N of N. Foreland.
~12:20 Arrival at Wpt1 was greeting by a cheer and relief at clear passage, (a long time to hold ones breath !!).
Our thanks to a great job by Tillergirl, a beverage of your choice awaits you when we meet !
