Great bit of kit IMHO! My new one is smart and comfortable. Yesterday Mr Sponge's hat decided to go for a swim. I was on the helm, so I went straight into the MOB drill. Mr Sponge grabbed the boat hook and retrieved his hat on the first attempt. The fact that these hats float is yet another plus! I spent the rest of the day basking in the glory of a very well executed MOB drill:o

Well done. My favourite African bush hat went into the gulf stream. But as we were running in heavy weather and I was alone on watch, I'm afraid that's where it stayed!

Still miss it.

Excellent headgear! I have three. Recovered my first in a MOB in the Saronic but then left it on the plane. It never made it to the lost property dept. - of course. Had my name and mobile No. written inside it too....

Tilley hat - useless bit of kit. sailing in a breeze - rim blows up - stays up - face burnt.

No its cowboy/sombrero shaped hats for me.

Don't when I bought my Landrover Defeneder I would never of bought a wax jacket 6 months later I had a Barbour (and I like it)...

Some times on leads to the other its evolution that you really don't expect...

Mine went for a two week swim. Blew off on the way out of Portsmouth harbour, was picked up by a canoeist near Osborne bay who phoned my number written in the hat and we were reunited three weeks later. It was a Fathers' day pressie so I was v v happy with that outcome.

Didn't their advertising used to claim they were good for elephants to nest in, or something?

Mike.

I think the elephant ate the hat & the owner had to dig in the poo a few days later to recover it.
I believe that all Tilleys now go through this quality testing procedure,
Australians seem to find that quite an acceptable form of testing!!!!!!

Me too - also when I was learning to sail some 30 years ago I wondered why all the old boys wore a Breton style cap, now an old boy myself and got one of those as well, it's brilliant when there is weather about. So Tilley for sun and Breton for wind and rain.

Lol,Breton style cap is what we call"vega mössa" in swedish.
After the Albin vega oldboys flet, and in sweden that is a warning sign.

For wind and rain, try a Sealskinz warm waterproof and windproof beanie hat
