Help - My luvly working mainsail system has to be disturbed - I've got to lower the main to stick on some numbers for the RIR (Not Hoya RTI this year we all note) How on earth do I lower the main on this system, does it all have to come apart - Ooh er!

Ian

On mine you simply unfurl the sail, remove vertical battens if a Maxiroach, and let go the halyard. (Same as a furling Genny).

Can't believe that's the case Ian. OK, mine's Sparcraft but above the furling spiral the grooves on the foil open and you pull the sail out there. I can't find Z Spars' phone number just now but it'll be on the YBW directory. Give em a call?

Depends on the make, but it shouldn't be difficult. On my Kemp/Selden Furlin system, it's merely fiddly; you reach in thro' access hole with fingers/screwdriver/long nosed pliers to disconnect the tack hook, then let go the halyard and slide the main down its luff-groove.
