After what must be one of the worst Summers for sun, I am leaving Shady in the water in anticipation of an Indian summer &/or some winter sailing!

Do others leave there yachts in the water? I notice the Exe is getting clear of boats already & Shady is looking a bit lonely, but I didn't pay all that dosh just to have her on the hard for six months, or am I being daft?

Maybe their clearing off due to the weather forecast for today?

This is the first time I'm leaving a boat in the water for the winter (except for February to do the AF & other things). The gelcoat has a five year guarantee, we have trippled the warps, removed anything that can be ripped and I will cover her over next month. what else?

Oh yes, she's in Greece. However I would be much more fussy to get her out if she were in the UK.

I have kept mine in commission for the last 3 winters, with a quick lift for a bottom scrub in the spring. Does not seem to harm the boat and leaves us with our weekend retreat. We always say that we will go out for lots of quiet winter sailing, but in truth there are few weekends after end of October when we venture out fro more than a couple of hours. But a couple of hours sailing on a bright crisp winters day is a joy and sets you up for a big sunday lunch.

Doing my first winter in and after recent weather, I'm really looking forward to some nice sailing. It also prevents the winter non sailing blues.

We only launched in July after a big refit. But we need the keel bolts checked/changed, so will be out for that. But we will relaunch again right afterwards. Also with the hope of some reasonable days this winter.
Incidentally, Dell Quay is charging us £750 for the lift and lowering and refixing the keel, with new stainless bolts, which will cost us £12 each. I thought that was pretty reasonable.

Enigma is due to be launched after refit in mid/late November at West Mersea. We're then going to sail her round to the Beaulieu River, assuming there's a gap or two in the weather. Looking forward to some clear, crisp days of sailing with uncrowded anchorages around the Solent and environs . . .

Stay in .. have only lifted for 2 weeks pa before this year .. but thats another story!

We use our boat year round. Summer on a mooring, winter in marina. Marina is a pain from sailing point of view..warps and fenders to remove before we can get sailing but useful due dark evenings and bad weather.
