In Boom Reefing/Furling

In the Sept YM there is a very interesting though brief article on this subject.

It certainly appears more practical and efficient than in-mast reefing. Less likely to jam out of reach, weight lower down. battens can be fitted and a decent roach to the mainsail.

Has anyone experience of these systems?

I suspect that our Antipodean friends may have some interesting comments.

Having stuck with our original 29 year old boom roller reefing, because we do find it more convenient with just two of us and the children, we would really like to have some knowledgeable commens. It was noticeable at the Nationals how much more competitive all the boats were who had changed to slab reefing and much larger mains with roach. Since our main now desperately needs replacing, we need to make decisions - stick with what we know and trust, change the boom and go for slab reefing, or change the boom and go for in boom reefing?
