Imray Digital Chart Plotter

Bought the Imray digital chart pack and plotter for the North Sea area and it arrived today. I run Vista and it won't run on my notepad. It looks like it will run on our desktop (running XP), but that's no good for taking on the boat.

Anyone have any experience of Imray IDC and Vista?

I bought the same pack two years ago and experienced a number of problems though it did just about work in the end.

Prob 1 Garmin gps wants to interface with a serial port which is non-existent on most laptops these days. Had to buy usb coverter from Maplins

Prob 2. Laptop (XP) took the gps to be a mouse and promptly went berserk sending the cursor flying all over the screen - you keep fiddling and it eventually steadies down.

Prob 3 The program occasionally for no apparent reason just unloads itself spontaneously.

Prob 4. I bought an additional cd for the Channel which confused it to the point where none of it worked again - took the cd back to the shop and have now given up on it.

I mentioned all this to Imray at the Boat show. They said there had been a few problems and promised to send me a free replacement - they didn't!
