Imray charts in iPhone and iPad

I have both. Imray is the one I use. Great for planning and tracking on passage, but absolutely not intuitive. I struggled for a while to get it to do everything and do think it needs a better manual.

BTW, the same publishers, Tucabo, have a tide planner TidePlan which is excellent.

I presume by TidePlan, you mean the Marine Tides Planner app? This is one of my bugbears - this app enables me to see tides in almost 5000 locations worldwide, but doesn't say which locations. How can I find out if the app gives me tidal detail for Avonmouth, Cardiff, Swansea, Ilfracombe etc. As for the international locations, like most people, I don't really give a monkeys as to what the tide is doing in Fort Lauderdale. I do care about North European waters.

Apologies for the thread hijack.

On a different note, am I right in saying that the Navionics charts can't be downloaded as a complete set on the iPhone?

They are both good apps. Imray is more of a chart plotter that you could use for navigation, Navionics is more for the charts to get a rough idea where you're going.
Very good list!

The Navionics App was updated a couple of days ago and navigating to a waypoint is relatively easily done now and there is a lat/long facility.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'course overview' but there is a 'track' which just lays a track of where you've been. There is, though, no COG displayed; an omission I thought odd. The pointer attached to the boat symbol is of infinite length, you can't 'trim' its length to a length you select (eg 10 min at SOG). The lack of a COG does make you wonder if the pointer is accurate.

But, the Navionics are vector charts and are easier to use, as you say.

One of the Imray charts is out of date by several years. The marina at St Cast isn't shown. You might conclude that there could be other charts which are not up-to-date and that is not what you want. Something odd happened whilst d/l the Imray app this afternoon; the usual pay-up screen never appeared and the quoted price dropped by £5, so, perhaps I got the cheap version ...

Neither is perfect ...
