Interesting history, wind hybrid mode of transport, where the hybrid eventually won. Some would call that ship a Noddy boat. 😉

A strange turn of events. I read RunAgroundHard's post above and looked at the references shown. The ship with the jury rig was the SS Norfolk and her funnel has the badge of the Federal Steam Navigation Company shown.
Federal Steam named their ships after English Counties, and by sheer chance my first ship was MV Cornwall also owned by Federal Steam Navigation Company, although in 1960 they were trading as Federal Steam and New Zealand Shipping Company with an office in the Royal Albert Dock.
Joined her in Avonmouth as a 16 year old Deck Boy.
