Improving FM/AM radio reception on the boat

The radio has a small powered antenna - the sort that would stick to your car windscreen - in the helm area. Reception is very poor, especially if you walk past it. TV reception is very good though from an antenna on the flybridge.

Would it be safe to fit a splitter to the coax cable leading to the TV and take a spur to antenna csocket on the radio? will it knacker anything up?

The chances are that the TV aerial is tuned for TV at UHF, hence decent reception. Splitting it for VHF signal to radio is unlikely to work as it is not tuned for VHF.
Suggest a separate proper VHF/FM radio aerial.

I Have always used a splitter on VHF antenna very successfully on several boats now

Vhf/FM and vhf/marine are similar frequencies, AM radio is less demanding so can be split from a suitable aerial. If the TV is working well especially if digital that I doubt it can be shared but I might be wrong it depends on the aerial.
