Rigger Mortice
N/A
Sometime ago I bought some cheap rope at a boat jumble. It's a bit stiff and has a rough outer braid with an iner which is lightly twisted (i.e. neither braid nor 3 strand). I never expected much from it, but it has been fine and has been useful to have in the locker.
The other day I wanted to splice an eye in it but I haven't even been able to get the outer braid open enough to be able to bring the core out. I've done the obvious thing of pushing the outer braid back in a fruitless attempt at getting a bit of slack into the braid.
Am I missing some simple technique, or do I have to accept that some ropes simply can't be spliced?
