Hi All,

I'm thinking through a winter project to add hot water to my boat and your collective thoughts on a system are appreciated.

I'm a day sailer/marina hopper, come weekend bolthole type of sailor. I don't need off multiple redundant offshore independent systems. I just want a small hot water system to feed the galley sink for washing up the tea cups, the heads sink for lick and a promise before the pub and a cockpit shower on those (very) occasional summer swim days.

My boat has a Yanmar 1GM10 engine and as it's directly sea water cooled it's not really suitable for setting up a calorifier. I know there are kits for fresh water cooling a 1GM10 but they are a bit over the top for my needs.

I'm really happy to have a small, shore power only 1KW or so, immersion heater tank of around 16 litres such as the Isotemp Slim Square. However, it's a bit expensive and complicated given I'm not going to use the engine water calorifier connections (I'm imagining just tapping them off if necessary). I don't want an instant electric water heater as it won't store any warm water on passage. As such, does anyone know of a small, simple, immersion type heater tank for the marine environment? A custom tank producer?

Is there a better, off the shelf product or solution that I'm missing out on?

Many thanks:)

If you change your requirement to "small immersion heater" and drop the marine bit you may have better luck. I'm not aware of anything special other than engine connections and you don't need those.
