IMHO they don\'t come better than this?

http://www.figueralia.com/leonorii/

Built by Herd and Mackenzie there are less than 15, all slightly different. This one was born Astra Volante and was built for the then Governor of Gibralter, Air Vice Marshall Sir Something Grandy, (at which time she had a voice pipe to the engine room for gear and throttle). To me there is no finer Motor Boat in the world than a Herd and Mackenzie in concours condition.

Not quite my cup of tea. Looks like a Boston fishing boat ( is it?).

Why has it got a big white flag at the back that looks like a sail?

...I wanna boat please..

..no , can't be. Not pretty enough for a MTB ...and definitely earlier than 1949

Looks like one of the converted old 50' naval supply boats (MFV - Motor Fishing Vessels) that were built during the war - they were deliberately built like fishing boats so they could flog them to fishermen after the war.

There's a nice converted one out of Orford called the Lady Florence that you can hire for day trips/ meals.

(Thats possibly a bit like saying an F40 looks like some kit car or other?)

Re: IMHO they don\'t come better than this?

I have seen similar
they are normally painted red and black and have a guy with a 5 day beard growth in a string vest with a fag in his mouth hanging outside of the wheelhouse

oh and trawling tackle

Beer! Now there's a temporary solution.

Re: IMHO they don\'t come better than this?

Not my cup of tea, but a nice boat imho. I would upgrade the CRT to a plasma screen in the stbd wheelhouse, and remove the awful B+Q/Castorama domestic ballustrading in the saloon, but otherwise a fine boat so long as not in a beam sea. I wouldn't mind some of that weather in the main pic. How much £££ issit?

Re: IMHO they don\'t come better than this?

Herd & Mackenzie is a fishing boat yard and they were built to fishing boat scantlings, but to very different material and finishing standards.

Yes they roll in a beam sea, although this one appears to have had stabilisers added. However it's a nice slow roll not the horrid whip of lighter displacement boats.

The balustrading I think you mean is round the aft companionway and is standard to all H&M's. John Mackenize is/was an austere man, no booze on board, which is why I'm told that most deliveries to the South Coast were unexpectedly held up in Gt. Yarmouth due to "weather"! It also meant that the interiors were comfortable but not ornate, and the companionways are steep like real boats.

Not "she's" not Ben, she a gorgeous little ship with all the comforts of home. My Herd & Mackenzie gave me great comfort off the Firth of Forth in 9 decreasing 8, falling off waves with a thump like hitting concrete over and over again. Very comforting in a bad one.

Also, all boats spend 99% of their time tied up to something, so personally I think space to be comfortable aboard and with your guests to have a cabin each is the best option. I've enough of unwashed fetid bodies snoring in confined space to last me several lifetimes!

She is of course "traditional", but then as you know so am I. Almost old enough to be a national monument.
