I\'m no angel ... (Sin bin rqd)

but then others who sail aren't either.

Surely it's time for those who miscreant here in or with words should be given public warnings and not just be plain banned.

IMO, Ghostwriter, who has sailed the world, (Edited)

Re: Sin bin exists

And really naughty scuttlebutters could be awarded a week trimming hedges in a methodist community in somewhere far. far from water (Saskatchewan, perhaps), or would such punishment be deemed unnatural and over-severe?

Sweetness and light! We are seeing new sides to your character today.

Yes of course Kim and Ghostwriter should kiss and make up, and Ghostwriter must promise not to be a naughty boy again. How could Charles have known that he and Violetta are long time friends?

Is the objectionable Max_Power related, perhaps?

\"Twas but a sentinel in the night

As they layed their anchor late"

The strength of this BB, IMO, is its internationality ... which is miniscule. We should all strive to bring and keep Manneken Sprouts in the altogether especially when they buy and read YM.

What\'s this?

Has Charles been gallant on my behalf? (If so, Charles, thank you, sir. You are a gentleman)

But does it mean ghostwriter has been ejected? (About time too - man's a menace! ;-))

But I didn't see any post to warrent such a thing? Where? what? when?

Dreadful person though he be, ghostwriter is an old friend and sparring partner. Why, his lawyers and mine are on first name terms...........Being a person of magnanimous disposition, I continue to admit him to my acquaintence, despite his many and various trangressions. Indeed, he even stole my mooring from its secluded oyster creek and dragged it, in the most sly and furtive manner, half way to Banania (or some neighbouring slough) before he was caught red-handed. And yet I found it in my heart to forgive!

If ghostwriter is out and the genuinely offensive max_power still posting on the board, then the world is turned upsidedown.

Free the Banania one, I say!

Re: Shades of 1984 ... ?

No, no. The esteemed Mr 101 was/is a hifi(ish) dealer from a landlocked location, who was desirous of buying the smallest available Moody and loading it beyond Samuel's line with every extra known to man and a few of his own invention. 42 inch plasma screen linked to a laptop, chartplotter and DVD player, anyone?

When we kindly advised him that perhaps the plot was not of the soundess, he took a little umbrage. Fun while it lasted.

From the Antwerp Zoo elephant (elect)

Ummm...this whole thing rapidly became mountain from pimple yesterday.

No-one understood the original reply from Ghostwriter because, strangely enough, we don't have an Admiralty code of signals covering mutually abusive relationships. Then my friend started ramping it up; I was sent a couple of private messages from people who thought we had a real issue brewing just as I was leaving office to deal with other stuff. So I canned the post and placed a temp ban on ghostwriter asking him to contact me to explain why he was telling everyone (it seemed by then) to p*&s off. That so I knew the whole thing wouldn't carry on as soon as I walked out of the door.

Ghostwriter then e-mailed me to tell me that he p*&^%d on me also (I respect a person convinced of convictions although he didn't accuse me of being 'big fat' as he did CharlesReed, which was a bit of a miss); he aired a conspiracy theory for the ban (he posts on BYM, therefore the US government must have shot Kennedy and ybw must have targeted Ghostwriter from the 29th floor of King's Reach Tower) and graced me with the knowledge that I am a bigot and give the UK a bad name for having zero sense of humour...and so on and so on. Oh yes, there was some obscure comment about my potential for replacing the Antwerp Zoo elephant.

Actually, none of this an issue for me but I then plain forgot to unban him again because the phone rang etc etc. For the record:

None of Ghostwriter's claims true. Well, actually, I am a bigot and I am a petty administrator and if I eat the pizza we've ordered in (and it gets past security tonight) then the Antwerp Zoo elephant might have some competition. But there's no agenda here, as always (although I guess it would be more fun if I pretended otherwise). Just some puzzlement about why our big-bladdered friend would have taken it upon himself to wave his firehose in the direction of innocent bystanders yesterday.

He's unbanned again, although I suspect he doesn't like me very much at the moment.

Two by two ...

We'll try to keep him under control, but don't hold out any promises. He's his own man and sails a proper boat (CO26) out of Makkum. He live's a life of Pi and says what he wants on BYM and CWBB in his own screech - It's upto to Marian Martin and Herb McCormick to bawl him out there if they wish to.

The Belgians are odd as they eat horses and claim to be better cuisiniers than the French ... and that's our Ghostwriter Jan: 10% this and 90% that interwixed with 90% this and 10% that ... It's a case for Lewis Carroll and the Looking Glass.

Re: What\'s this?

My Dear Violetta,

'Genuinely offensive Max Power’

Now who’s calling who names ?

It seems that you can forgive a fellow transgressor like Ghostwriter without even knowing what he has done. But of course, he like a number of others who belong to your cosy BYM clan so can do no wrong can they ?

Do you perhaps have a view on Mirelle for calling an innocent poster’s boat a plastic toy recently or some time ago referring to someone else’s boat as frozen snot ? I doubt it, he is also in the club isn’t he .

And how about Twister Ken’s recently calling an innocent American journalist a ‘tosser’ for asking opinions on an amphibious boat ?. ( will he ever apologise ?')

Do these count as 'genuinely offensive' ? I would love to know.

If you are going to be even handed about people and their actions I suggest you at least do it on level terms.

p.s. I notice that your personal details have not been filled in at all. How am I expected to know how to avoid you ? ( Please refer to Mirelle for further details).

If you cannot recognise a quotation from LF Herreshoff, you might consider reading something about one of the greatest American designers and writers on sailing of the last century before inflicting your opinions on us. When I open a post titled "Choosing a gaffer", a subject that interests me quite a bit, I expect that to be the subject of the post, not an encomium of one particular brand.

There is no "club"; the delusion that you are being excluded from the grown-up's world is common at your age, and posting offensive remarks, on bulletin boards or railway cutting retaining walls, is a common reaction. But don't worry; in a few years' time, when you get into your twenties, and your hormones and pimples settle down a bit, you will learn that if you behave nicely you will be allowed to join in grown up activities too.

Okay that\'s enough

I for one am getting tired of this BYM versus ybw thing. Each to his own...

Ditto let's cap the comments that get personal please. Debate as fiercely as you like but please keep it at a level that makes at least a token gesture towards civility...
