I\'m in need of a good stripper!

Paint stripper that is /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'd like to remove the old painted name on the transom which is white-ish GRP

So what do you recommend?

Preferably something that won't peel the gel coat off or turn it pink!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are you sure it's on GRP and not on a painted hull? Just ask because paint stripper will go through both of course!

When I wanted to get rid of a painted boat name I used wet and dry and finally polished all up with T-cut or similar rubbing/polishing paste which got rid of the last remnants of name paint. I had a painted hull so couldn't use paint stripper. Surprisingly good result and with a little care no overlap from the name with the wet and dry.

Yup, I know it's not painted co the scratches on the hull are the same colour /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was hoping to avoid sanding :0)

I tried Dilunet when I was stripping off my old antifoul. It turned the top few microns to gunge which had to be wiped/sraped off and then the stripper re-applied. far too slow for the area that I had to remove, but for a small area it might be do-able.
There have been a few threads on anti-foul removal, like this one anti-foul removal but I'd be cautious about the after-effects when the treated area isn't going to be covered up with ani-foul again.

I searched the net for a GRP friendly stripper and found Safer Stripper which looks very good, but as I had to order it from UK, which always takes weeks too long I, in expasperation, found a sheet of 600 grit wet and dry paper and attacked the old name, plus most of the hull and deck. Results are excellent - removal can be carefully controlled; not too much at a time but a gentle stroke with lots of water. Obviously you will need to input lots of olish and wax becos you are making scratches in the surface. Over/cambio.
