I\'m going to put the safety guard on my grinder.

I took the safety guard off my grinder a while ago so I could get the last bit of life out of a cutting disc.

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, yep all still there except for a slight nick in one knuckle.....

I reckon today I have learnt a valuable lesson.

Many moons ago, I did a stint at the Industrial Training Centre in Poole.

A student there tried to cut into a lump of metal with a grinder (couldn't tell the difference between a grinder and a mill, apparently) -- unsurprisingly, the grinding wheel shattered.

The shattered disk punctured the factory wall, went through the wire reinforced glass windows, and also through the roof some 20' overhead -- looked like someone had strafed the building with a Kalashnikov (sp?)!

...ever since, I tend to use the safety features provided )

When i was an apprentice a mate forgot to tighten up the screws on a parting off tool in a lathe. A few seconds after contact with the metal we saw the said tool travelling vertically upwards - never to be seen again. So it either went thro the roof or got stuck in it. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Your'e a lucky man Ben!!! last time I tried cutting corners I took my goggles of so I could see better (no pun intended) I ended up in the Eye hospital having 4 pieces of metel removed from the right eye!!! a painful experience I will not be repeating!
