I\'m Astonish-ed

Just got back from a very windy marina. After last week's launch I just needed at get to grips with the topsides. Good wash and wax was the order of the day. Anyone who frequents Shotley marina will understand that the diesel soot that blows over from Felixstowe docks sticks to your gel coat like a sort of slime. Car shampoo wasn't even touching it so remembering a previous thread about Astonish (Lakeland Plastics cream cleaner) I broke it out. Talk about "just the job" - blimey and some. I was surprised how easy it removed the black streaks and I was being careful not to rub too hard incase of scratching. But no - gel coat looks mint, couple of coats of Polwax and she will look marvellous. One happy customer, fenders to try next - go get your Astonish /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m Astonish-ed

I didn't realise that there was more than one variant of Astonish. I have always had excellent success with the paste variant in a small tub.

If you are talking about the light grey paste then I think it is mildly abrasive but as you have found out it works so well and you press so lightly that it doesn't actually scratch at all.

I have found an alternative within the Betterware catalogue. Their 'Pink Stuff' is the same (but pink instead of grey). They used to do a similar product called 'Marvel' until recently.

These cleaners work so well that you shouldn't use them unless you are prepared to wax afterwards. If you don't then the bird droppings will stick like glue!
