Hi everyone,

I thought you mind find this story interesting.

Illegally moored boats moved from Thames

Council cracks down on 'eyesore' after resident complaints

Boats that have been moored illegally on the River Thames have been moved on by Windsor and Maidenhead Council with the help of the Environment Agency.

The action followed complaints from residents and visitors, who expressed concerns about moorings that flout regulations.

As well as moving the vessels on, the council has introduced a daily charge of £8 for moorings between Grosvenor Drive and Frances Avenue....

In the 1950s opposite these moorings that been removed in Maidenhead , along this stretch of river road were boatyards..when i was 14 years of age i used to work for Emonys boat hire these mooring have been there for over 50 years to my memory and were used by these yards..since then the boatyards have gone instead you have very expensive trendy riverside apartments in there place....and as for Simon Dudleys quote it has "caused great distress " all i can say to Mr Dudley remarks it causes great distress if you your handback is stolen ,not when you look out on a view ....all these people wanted, who live there is to look out on the trees on the Eyot...this is just the sad way of the world nowdays that money talks........

So is your contention that the boats were not "Illegally moored", or that they should be allowed to moor there, even if mooring is not allowed?

Or does this only become an issue because people owning "very expensive trendy riverside apartments" pointed it out and agitated to have the rules upheld?

What i am saying is that on a traditional basis there have been vessels moored on this island for 50 years plus...and if you look just a little to your right from these properties you see the crumbling ruins of Skindles which in my opinion is greater eyesore..just waiting for a friendly property developer to come along...they agitated so they got a better view.....it is the same principle as my old friend Bill Stacey and his wife Jill who could not hang her washing out at Boulters Lock House......nothing to do with the high moral ground ..just rich newcomers wanting there own way...

So they should be allowed whether it's lawful or not and it's a problem because the newcomers are rich.

Thanks for the clarification.

err ...just to clear things up a tiny bit ,the pictures attached to the MBM article show a load of dumb barges, commercial platforms and the like ?

and surely the moral of this story is if you want to piss off the posh gits* across the river with a gross pile of festering unsightly tat, held together with baling string and old tarpaulins all lovingly rescued from from the murky depths over the last 20 years, just make sure you have paid the mooring fee,got the correct license and it has a BSS.
Simples Innit.
Got to be worth the effort purely to b****r the market value of their property.:)
Ps.setting fire to dustbins can also acheive the same affect as can loud drum n bass played at all hours.Or even worse Robbie Williams.
*just remember they are all almost certainly going to be management consultants or bankers.

Where vessels shouldn't have been anyway, unless the various articles are wrong that the boats were illegally moored?

You don't get this do you i lived a grow up in Maidenhead as a small boy i lived for and on the river, and i have seen the river change and not for the better that stretch where these properties are were all boat yards ,with wooden skiffs and canadian canoes for hire and all the piles opposite were moorings for these yards..the river is boats ..these yards and the moorings had been there in the Skindles days at the turn of the 1900s....the whole of that area looks sterile

Glad to see the EA working effectively in partnership with the Local Authorities and enforcing the laws and regulations the majority of us abide by.
