I'll trade two weeks rest and play for willing help on my boat in the Greek Islands

Great idea. hope the op doesn't mind me jumping on the band wagon.

If someone can polish and antifoul my boat + service the engines and legs, I'll offer up a weekends holiday in Mablethorpe on the desirable East Coast of England. I'll pay for the oil and air filters along with the impellers, antifoul paint and oil but you'd need to cover the lift out and relaunch fees and all other expenses such as the storage ashore fee. This holiday of a lifetime will include accommodation at me mums house but you'll need to make your own way there and also cover off any additional expenses such as food i.e. I will provide your accommodation alone for up to 1 individual. You'll live it up for two whole days in the month of January 2014 enjoying the sandy beaches (the bits in between the mud flats), sticky rock, fish n chips and don't forget the thrills and spills of the donkey rides and dodgems. You'll need to love cats, dogs, parrots and guinea pigs plus not be shy of the odd bunion (you'll need to massage mum's feet 3 times a day whilst on holiday). I am expecting a huge response to this one so no PM's please as it'll overload my inbox, answers within this thread only, thank you.

Sign me up, sounds like fun

I think it only fair that I introduce mum before proceeding further with these arrangements

Jimmy I understand the deal to be:

1. you spend 2 weeks working on the mini refit. One week the boat is in the yard, and one week it is in the water. The jobs list is in the post. OP pays the flights and food is shared. And there's a scooter for local errands.

2. Then after all that is done, you get 2 weeks use (specifically the last 2 weeks in April) of the now nicely fettled boat, bareboat I think but it is not crystal clear so maybe OP intends to skipper the boat. This is the holiday, and is the quid pro quo for helping with the refit. This is the "2 weeks rest and play" that is the "trade" for the two weeks' work

That's how I read it anyway.

service the engines and legs

What happens if the engines seize and the legs blow up? You'll be regretting letting some stranger at your running gear then! Personally I think that could end in disaster, each to their own though.

Also when it comes to resale and you're asked who serviced your engines/legs, the response "oh some guy who I paid in kind by bringing him for a spin in the boat" - it'd make me run, fast!

I didn't see it like that.

I took it to read:

You will be here for 2 weeks. The first week will be spent ashore cracking on with a few jobs.

The second week is holiday time where OP plus new friend will enjoy a week afloat finishing off any jobs which didn't get sorted whilst ashore as well as a little bit of electrical fault finding / sorting.

Any time not spent working you are free to enjoy the use of the scooter. But you will be working most of the time.

Fuel used during holiday / commissioning is to be split between OP & new friend.

Just as a guide it took a good week working well into the night to mop and polish our new 2012 Princess 50. To be fair we did a good job but there is a lot of glass fibre.....

We didn't paint any windows.

Henry :)

OK so what's going on? First you pimp your gorgeous mum and as soon as someone offers a bit of business you chicken out. I have to say I'm disappointed. Clearly big shaft drivers have more machismo than short leg hoppers.

A fair summary. Fact is the polishing is best done in bits, otherwise the muscles give up.

OK, so there is no "I'll trade two weeks (last two weeks of April) for one week in the boatyard and one week afloat"? There is no trade of 2 weeks work for two weeks holiday? There is only one "two weeks" to begin with.
Not arguing with you Henry. Just amused at the lack of clarity :D

If it started this confusing, imagine how it could end?!

I got burned on the forum in the past trying to help out a forumite transport a boat from ROI to Wales. Took the time off work (no biggie as hadn't much on), booked train & bus tickets (as was told to do, would be reimbursed I was told). Tried ringing the person in question, no answer. THAT MORNING, they send a text (ignorant pillocks) to say that they moved the boat the day before and no need for me to pop up. So I got stung for bus & train tickets (not all that cheap), the guy went quiet when I politely asked for the cost of those to be covered. I'll tread more carefully next time I offer to help.

not at all, here's her contact details. I've given her the heads up that you're gonna call. 08448 700462

p.s. if someone answers professing to be a member of the gay outdoor club, it'll be mum. She has to put up a front to deter the stalkers you see, she's attracted a few over the years, her alluring beauty has its downside I'm afraid.

Sorry not into phone s*x Has to be face to face but I do bring my own paper bags as a prophylactic. Toss a coin as to who gets to wear it.
I'm surprised you are not more interested in this unrepeatable vacation offer given your summer sojourn into med boating last year. Or were you just flirting with the idea of turning to the light side.
I could spice things up by letting interested forumites propose mini projects or tasks to be completed within the allotted two or three weeks with live commentary on the forum. Free Mythos or Metaxa for winners.
