I'll trade two weeks rest and play for willing help on my boat in the Greek Islands

If it started this confusing, imagine how it could end?!

I got burned on the forum in the past trying to help out a forumite transport a boat from ROI to Wales. Took the time off work (no biggie as hadn't much on), booked train & bus tickets (as was told to do, would be reimbursed I was told). Tried ringing the person in question, no answer. THAT MORNING, they send a text (ignorant pillocks) to say that they moved the boat the day before and no need for me to pop up. So I got stung for bus & train tickets (not all that cheap), the guy went quiet when I politely asked for the cost of those to be covered. I'll tread more carefully next time I offer to help.

So. Nothing more was heard from boatlover? And you were left out of pocket. That's not good.

Sorry not into phone s*x Has to be face to face but I do bring my own paper bags as a prophylactic. Toss a coin as to who gets to wear it.
I'm surprised you are not more interested in this unrepeatable vacation offer given your summer sojourn into med boating last year. Or were you just flirting with the idea of turning to the light side.
I could spice things up by letting interested forumites propose mini projects or tasks to be completed within the allotted two or three weeks with live commentary on the forum. Free Mythos or Metaxa for winners.

How about a top end regrind and overhead adjustment in the last couple of days to save on the cost of cruising fuel? Of course you would have to pay for the gaskets and the fuel to start her up afterwards. The worker to supply his own tools, grinding paste and sarnies.

TBH the offer is less than attractive, not that SWMBO would let me out on my own.

OK, so there is no "I'll trade two weeks (last two weeks of April) for one week in the boatyard and one week afloat"? There is no trade of 2 weeks work for two weeks holiday? There is only one "two weeks" to begin with.
Not arguing with you Henry. Just amused at the lack of clarity :D

I'll be interested to see how this plays out... it's generally been my experience of shipping people down to the Med to work on my boat that they generally (and not unreasonably) expect to (a) get paid for their time (b) have their reasonable cost-of-living expenses covered, as well as travel and accommodation being provided (as they are here). VolvoPaul was here last year and I must admit I didn't ask him to pay for half the fuel for the sea trial after he'd completed the service work, I obviously missed a trick ...! :D

You're probably right but for five years I had a great friend who participated in the boat just for the fun we had, and it gave him a good reason to escape his wife. Unfortunately he died last year. We miss him a lot. His end was probably hastened by too much wife and not enough boat.

Judging by the thread you would think that it was a stupid idea but a couple of forumites have shown more than a passing interest. As yet no commitments but there are people who probably don't own a boat, don't earn mega bucks, but would love to have some exposure to med boating for a few weeks and form a lasting friendship.
BTW the fuel issue only comes into play if the assistant wants to tour 5 islands in 5 days at 20 knots.

Correct :(

It's a pitty as 99% on this forum are upstanding individuals, but it's this 1% that makes one not want to help others out.

That said, i've been given so much good advise, been helped with products.... and I will never forget how well we were treated in South of France by BartW & Co. so there is 2 sides to every coin, I guess.

I'd see it as a kind of working holiday and for someone not afraid of a bit of graft it seems a good offer. I'd be tempted but for lack of time and the heat - any free time is spent with family etc and Med temperatures are great if you don't have to work in them!

That's pretty disgraceful - if they didn't want the help then they should have said so sooner! I'd have been seriously hacked off..
