I need to get my boat ready for this year but I have to accept that I am not the man I was.
So I'll trade two weeks (last two weeks of April) for one week in the boatyard and one week afloat for someone keen to learn or teach.
I'll pay the flights, but the food and fuel gets shared.
The boat is a 47' motor yacht with two 430 hp Detroit Diesels, so plenty of room. Assistant, any gender, will have own cabin, heads and shower. Ad hoc Travel will be by scooter.
Program for the helper will be
Boatyard
Jet wash hull and decks
Polish hull and superstructure
Antfoul paint lower hull
Paint window frames
Assist in electrical circuit tracing
Afloat
Assist in repairing radar
Fit new depth Sounders
Fit new instruments and calibrate.

Preference given to someone with relevant skills i.e. carpenter, painter, electrician, plumber. And as the second week will require sea time I am happy to help assistant to improve boat handing skills including close quarter manoeuvring, navigation and opening cans of beer.

That also sounds like a good weeks work. I could easily see it running into two weeks depending on your view of what running a mop over the hull and top sides entails :)

Henry :)

Quite a lot of work there, sounds interesting!

Are you saying that the person gets two weeks on the boat 'on the water' in 'holiday' mode, cruising etc. in exchange for 2 weeks labour? What if all the work isin't done in the 1 week in the boatyard?

Don't think i'd get away with disappearing for a month!

OK I'll try and answer in order
Think of this as an activity holiday of which one week in the boatyard will be hard graft (on Greek time 6 hrs max per day) then down to bars in Aegina for a sundowner. If the locals can anti foul my boat in one and a half days, I'm sure two Brits can do it. polishing takes 3 days.
Then one week afloat with a mooring in Aegina or Angistri harbours fixing and run testing instruments but also checking out the engines etc and testing anchor winches, passerelles. Not hard graft just skinned knuckles.
There will be pointing and grunting as I'll be grafting as well trimming out the saloon and aft cabin, fitting instrument and electrical cable runs etc etc.
My plan is to try and compress my normal three weeks prep work into two without a total knackerfest.

At 8 knots, 1100 rpm the Detroits burn 1 gallon per mile. At 18 knots 2300 rpm on turbo 4 gallons per mile.

And tinkicker if I had the time i'de come looking for you. Carpe Diem

Hi Alf Does this mean you're forsaking the gloomy mists of Hibernia for the land of Sun, Warmth and Taxes?

Once a year since my Mother in law was widowed, we've taken her to places on her "to visit list" in the more comfortable and quiet part of the season ... did the long haul (Bangkok, US, Caribbean etc.), in the early years ... now older and not so fit (81), we restrict flight time and break up City & Country/Island. Last year we did Split & Hvar ... this year it's Greece, Athens & Spetses.... so you could say, yes we break and reduce our boating opportunities by doing this, but that is family for you .. :)
