Had a great yacht holiday here a few years back. Now considering doing the same in a motor boat but notice that the charts say "restrictions for sailing with fast motorboats" - what is the defintion of fast? We were thinking of hiring a Linssen that does about 8 knots

Cheers

Although 8 Kts is quit fast for a displacement vessel, it's not 'fast'.
The term 'fast' you're referring to is defined as 20 kmh+ (approx. 11 Kts).
For the main part of the IJsselmeer, there is no speed limit. Some sections however do have one and some sections are reserved for waterskiing, see maps and Almanak.

Before you go on the IJsselmeer with a rental boat, check if it is allowed as most rental companies don't allow you to go on the IJsselmeer or other large waters!

Although I don't expect, but if the boat is 15m+, you need a licence (ICC)

Have fun, we're planning to cross it next sat/sun
