Ijmuiden is a good destination from UK east coast ports. The marina - sharp right inside the mole - is large and expensive and remote from shoreside attractions. Suggest instead you go straight through the sailing lock (called Sport lock - to starboard side) and take a break for free against the pilings there.
One hour on down the North Sea canal towards Amsterdam you can turn right and shelter in a proper marina with facilities. It's only 21 k (2.5 hrs) from Ijmuiden to Amsterdam with the all the fun on offer - go for the Six Haven on the north bank if arriving before 1600hrs, otherwise it will be too full. If so, about 200m further along the N bank, there's an overflow marina - very easy access to town also via free ferry. If in the Six Haven, walk round and over the lock, turn left and make for the free ferry to the Centraal Staion - walk through into town.
When traversing the NS canal, watch out for frequent ferries!
If the wind heads you - go for Scheveningen to the south. Good port lying at the southern edge of the beach.
With a good SW you can go for den Helder but only approach in settled flooding conditions - the approach waters run hard wind/tide. Thers is little to see at den Helder, you'll move on swiftly - but try Texel (Oudeschild) 6m north of den Helder - you will not be disappointed. Then perhaps truck off via den Oever to the Ijselmeer and its delights - look out for me I'm travelling that way too!
Good sailing!
