Because of the ongoing blockages on the fixed mast route, I'm considering going the outside route.
I have up to date Navionics and Imray charts but can only access these on my phone. My paper charts are well out of date.
Any particular pitfalls I should look out for?

You can see relevant 2024 and 2025 NtM by going to Notices to Mariners. Select 'by area' to Dutch.

I notice that some images are not displaying automatically but you should be able to click on the PDF button and see the images. I need to repair the links to show the images automatically and shall do later today.

We came that way last weekend, although we carried on to Roompot. No surprises. The only major thing to keep in mind is crossing the Maas entrance.

Call them on VHF 3 when you’re at the MN1 buoy and tell them you’re crossing. They’ll keep an eye out and call you if there’s any issues. In principle they want you to keep the speed up of course, but they called us to tell us a container ship would pass in front so we were able to slow down and increase the gap!

(Oh and Scheveningen is a very welcoming harbour, but they do want you to call and check for permission to enter and exit on 21). The yacht club is very helpful but then I am biased…

Stellendam is quite a detour if you’re coming from Ijmuiden and heading south. The Slijkgat channel is 6.5 NM to the lock and not advisable in a strong onshore wind. Do not cut across the shallows.
If you want to break the trip Scheveningen is the obvious choice, with Zeebrugge the next stop if you continue along the coast.
