Has anyone replaced a VP 859573 or 888001 ignition switch with one of these: Ignition Switch 4 connections suitable for Volvo Penta ? If so was it successful and were there any issues in fitting it?

You would do better going to a supplier like Furneaux Riddall and buying a switch with a description which matches your existing switch.
They may be able to cross reference the VP part number

There's obviously a variety of VP switches. Have you asked the shop if it is a suitable replacement for the model that you have? Also, is the fitting hole the same for the alternative switch?
At £35 it might be worth a go. It's not like the VP switches are particularly great quality.
