Had a succesful gearbox change without too many issues on aour westerly Longbow 31. But the controll panel temp sensor and rev gauge are buggering about. What is the cost of refurbing the whole unit or is it worth just buying a new ignition panel

Check connections and power supplies.

Check the sensors on the engine too but if tacho and temperature gauge are both playing up I'd definitely be looking for a common electrical problem in the panel

The panel is pretty basic. Nothing like the electronic modules that haunt owners of more modern VP engines.

The temp sensor fluctuates and goes into the red even tjough there does nor appear to be any overheating issues and the rev counter can be intermittent

I have the same engine. No issues with rev counter, but the temperature gauge rises to the top of the green and then falls back down again repeatedly. No signs of overheating so might be a bad connection or the effect of the thermostat opening and closing.
This is on a raw water cooled engine.
It's been doing this now for nine years.........

I think you will find that is is due to bad water circulation through the cylinder blocks.
