Iffy rev counter TAMD41A

one rev counter is iffy on our TAMD41A engines, new boat to us so sorting all the gremlins!

Sometimes it works but usually not. I have checked alternator terminals and it seems ok and more importantly the flybridge rev counter on same engine always works.

Are these rev counters known to be troublesome, and has anybody found a decent instrument repairer who can do a diesel rev counter overhaul.

I assume it is the rev counter, but think I may switch it with the other engine as a test!

I had the same prob with both of mine. After a lot of fruitless research I bit the bullet and bought new ones whiole the wife wasnt looking.

Had similar problem with mine on Tamd 61A. sent them to a repair shop in Wales called Speedy Cables, cost about £100, five years ago.
Have since lost their phone no but try 01639 732213.

Had the same with mine on previous boats with AQAD41's. first i had them repaired but on the second I replaced with new VDO gauges at 150€ each.
Only difference was that their range was up to 4K rmp as opposed to 5K RPM on the volvo. The volvo gauges were contructed a bit weak he said. Repairs don't always hold up as they are caused by the print vibrating.

Thanks people, I had as it happens now contacted speedy cables who have done car ones for me in the past and they can do for £110-120 she said likely. The down side is an eight week turnaround!

I would rather keep them because it is the lower helm one with hours meters in them too.
The fact it occasionally works seems to mean that it is a poor joint or something, its not broken as such. I am almost feeling brave enough to look in and see, I have repaired electronics before by carefully going over what look like dry solder joints on boards.
Has anybody looked in one?!!
