you took friends away on your boat and all they did was whinge and moan about how cold it was and being a considerate and kind person you decided that their friendship was worth hanging on to and so you dug deep and bought an eberspacher...do you think it only fair that the whingeing wee buggers should chip in and stand some of the considerable financial outlay incurred?

Well, i think it's a bit poor that yiour friends haven't already orgainsed for a chapppie to supply and install such a device as a nice "thankyou" in return for a lovely weekend, no?

Or, perhaps they did try to orgainse something, but then something didn't go according to plan, and they are now locked in legal arguments with them? That could be it, maybe.

hmm... I don't know.

I would see it as a capital improvement rather than an expense. I think we can fairly charge friends a share of expenses, but don't think for a capital expense. You did get the heater in order to keep them sailing (and crewing which helps keep you on the water) afterall.

Sorry I do not support your opinion here claymore, but that is purely my opinion. I don't yet have a boat - am trying to find another, and may feel different when it hits home exactly how expensive these toys can be.

There's a few of the former around Argyll for sure but the only monkeys I've seen were the cheeky ones who came up and complained about the cold.

That obviously was'nt me because we had a working Eberspacher, and very nice it was too, however what's the Eberspacher season in Scotland , does'nt diesel freeze in the colder months?

My manager is Scots and this is exactly the kind of thing I would expect from him too......

On the contrary - for your friend were to chip in for a capital expense then you would be deemed to be chartering the boat commercially.

Now as I assume you are not a YM Commercial, and your boat is not coded and insured, that would be illegal and you could be liable to a large fine.

I must applaud your friend for putting your interests above his own generous impulses, and not putting you in a difficult position by chipping in /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

tight .. nae us mister ... why, he wus offered a tape recording the sound of an eberspacher so that he could wistfully play it back and remind himself of what a working one sounded like. also, an enhanced experience was offered whereby a device would be fitted which ejected a cloud of soot into the cabin at odd and random times so that he could re-appear on deck looking as if he'd just been stoking the boiler on his steam yacht

all these practical and inexpensive ideas which were given so willingly, unstintingly and without any thought of reward were rejected most ungraciously which just goes to show what an ungrateful auld goat he is ....
