You can tell the author knew buggerall about any of the ships, and was just quoting AIS data 
My old boss sailed in the Ramform Titan, or something very similar. They tow massive arrays of acoustic survey gear, hence the weird shape.
Flip may be registered as military, but of course is an oceanographic research vessel.

Many years ago used to fly to the Petrojarl Banff which was a floating oil production and storage vesse based on the Ramform design. Used to leap around somewhat. Not sure they were the optimum design to be strapped to the seabed and hope they were much better when underway
