Blue ensigns flown without club burgees. Red ensigns with skull and crossbones superior. Dressing overall with the flags in the wrong order.
What's going on?
Are skippers just using them as decorative rags?
Does anyone here know anymore what flags are about?
There is no obligation to fly an ensign, unless you are a British registered vessel, so why fly them at all if you don't know what you're doing? Makes the boat look pretty?
If you're going to do it, why don't you do it properly?

Blue AND defaced ensigns worn without club burgees? Drop a note to the club - they are very sensitive to losing the privilege of an Admiralty Warrant!

I just string'em up in the way they come out of the wallet unless I'm flying a message, It's amazing just how many people can read the words "come to the party" and then stand on to you when flying UY.

True, there is no single correct order for code flags used in dressing overall, but it is important to avoid any unintended signal through a particular sequence of flags. The following order has been approved by the Admiralty to avoid any confusion:-

Bow to mast head:- B, Q, U, 2nd Substitute, L, Numeral 8, T, P, Numeral 5, S, Numeral 9, X, Z, 3rd Substitute, R, Numeral 0, C, G, Answering Pendant, D.

Mast head to stern W, Numeral 4, E, F, Numeral 7, N, Numeral 6, J, O, Numeral 3, H, Numeral 2, Y, M, Numeral 1, K, 1st Substitute, V, I, A.
