If you were/are boatless and another forumite, one you weren't sure you liked, invited you to go sailing, would you go?

This is purely a hypothetical question to see how desperate we are to get out sailing.:D

Definitely - when I've met forumites in person they have been infinitely better company than I would have suspected from their online personas. I hope they thought the same about me.

I'd have thought the obvious idea would be to meet up at a club / pub and chat as much as possible first , ( if a woman, with a friend ) rather than just turn up in waterproofs ?!

I'd tend to agree with that.

Depends what the trip in question was; I could put up with any idiot for a day sail :)

YES I would. Communication is 80% non-verbal so we only use 20% on here.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do"

+ 400 ..

Every forum member has been a delight when meeting in person apart from one who lives by the beach near Hayling Island .... Oh yes I still have your abusive letters and complaints ...

That's the one with the trouser malfunction, right? I got some slightly creepy PMs from him but fortunately never met in person.

I have met and sailed with Mr Seajet, numerously :D
A Gent, he be.

And we met in a Sussex ale house first...

It's not sea jet don't worry ! I won't name him otherwise every TOM dick or Harry will start moaning and that's a hefty PRICE to pay on a Sunday eve ...

Anyhow I should not use words so freely as i may commit a malapropism...

I wasn't meaning Seajet :)
But I was at Hayling Island this afternoon, meeting Geoff Holt MBE - another lovely Chap.

Ok, I'm in Falmouth (really I am), don't have a boat with me, and ready to meet for a drink a chat and a sail,,, not necessarily in that order though. :D

Yes its been said I will sail with anyone anything if it floats or not

I have turned up for weekend races 250 miles away only knowing the name of the boat and skipper. Recommended through a friend if that makes it different.

Certainly day sail no problems, a weeks sail I might get choosy....

As for crewing for me, it would depend on who else was with me. If I had my daughter I would want us to sail before, my partner probably not...
