The thing I most enjoyed when I visited the Pyramids at Giza was Khufu's ship. Built in 2500bc, it was discovered buried in a pit in 1954. The grass lashings which had held it together had disintegrated, but the cedar planking was still in remarkable condition. It was painstakingly reconstructed over a number of years by a gentleman called Ahmed Youssef Moustafa. At 143 ft long it's an extraordinary thing, and the building which has been constructed to house it is well lit & allows the visitor to get really close up to it.

We visited Cairo in November 2011, as our daughter was doing a year at University there for her arabic degree. While we were there, it all kicked off again in Tahrir Square, so we were almost alone at all of the tourist attractions we visited.
