What's the first questions you get asked - in order?

Can you sleep on it?
How many can it sleep?
Where is the furthest you have been?

These questions seem to sum up what every non boater needs to know about your pride & joy and life on the ocean waves.

Then it might be....

Oh, has it got a TV?
Goodness don't tell me it's got a microwave?

Sorry, actually that last question comes from yachties!

So whether it's a £5k boat or £5m boat, these questions seem to give a non boater all they need to know to make an assessment of your boat and your lifestyle.

Is that everyone elses experience. LOL.
 
The first question we get every single time is

"Is it a narrowboat/barge/canal boat?"

Why do non boaty types assume every boat kept inland is a tin slug?
 
1. A sailing boat or a motor boat?
2. Do you sleep on it?
3. How big is it?
4. Where do you keep it?
5. Don't you need qualifications for that sort of thing?
6. Where do you go in it?
7. Don't they use a lot of fuel?
8. Is it just you, or does R (SWMBO) go as well?
9. Is it your first one?
10. ...and finally, asked in different ways but rarely outright, "How much did it cost?"

I get almost exactly the same same questions in the same order but then also with:

11. How much does the mooring cost?
12. How far have you been?
13. Do you go fishing on it?
14. When are you taking us out on it?

Good additions, I've been asked all but #13.
 
Get the same questions but usually in a totally uninterested way.

Find that people who do not have boats are not usually in the least bit interested.
 
This thread reminds me of an alleged overheard conversation some years ago....

Non boaty person 1 - standing next to Superyacht: "Cor that's a nice boat"
Non boaty person 2 - reply: "I'd rather have a Range Rover"

There is a big difference between going fishing and catching fish.
Mobo/raggie/sports boat, many of us have tried, most have failed.
 
Canarvon the other week first question was "how much does a boat like this cost" then 5 thousand other questions along the same lines. The guy in the post office was most interested, bit slow on asking relevant questions, I could see he was disappointed in his line of questioning.

Best question as a narrow boat owner, previously, is " can you stand up in there "
 
In our area it is always assumed by non boaters that when ever any motor boat either leaves a berth, mooring or back yard (on trailer), it is going fishing....."Where are you heading to, are the fish biting?"

Likewise on the return, ..."did you catch any fish?"

I mean, what else could you possibly want to do on a boat? :rolleyes:
